Mission Statement:
I work with impulse - mine and that of those around me... Only by listening can any event -
artistic or otherwise - hold truth and reality... I believe that creating a safe
environment in which to work allows thorough exploration of self, truth, and story...
Knowing safety exists allows great risks to be taken and therein lives your deep truths...
I believe in "the Reality of Doing..." I believe live theatre grows us as a culture and as
a compassionate society...
I draw from a multitude of transformational techniques to foster an authentic unwinding of the
body in conjunction with the mind. We let the body dictate the pace, exploring impulse, breath,
and the evolution into motion. Every movement begins in a specific location in the body and we
will work to determine economy of motion - inception to conclusion. We will open the body while
engaging the mind through exploration of range of motion. We investigate where the power lives in
you, how to access that power, and how to enhance the joy of being in your body. Our journey lives
in questions, not in answers, so that we do not predetermine any result, allowing possibility to
live in the moment truthfully.
All people hold personal truths; to survive we may sacrifice personal truth for social facades.
Certainly we need our social behavior to endure and excel in the world - but sometimes those social
behaviors lead us into places that do not seem helpful nor represent who we want to be. To unearth
our genuine selves, we need to touch into the impulses we are ignoring and choose who we are /right now/.
To reveal the essence of impulse and who we are, I channel the acting training methods of Stanislavski
and Meisner, both of whom developed exercises to reveal truth in the moment. Every moment can bring
inspiration, vibrance, and truth. Become better at being yourself - honestly - by listening to your
impulses.
So what is Movement Re-Education?
Movement re-education is exploring and expanding our awareness and choices of how we exist in
the world. Movement pioneer Moshe Feldenkrais stated, "...self-knowledge through awareness is the
goal of reeducation.
As we become aware of what we are doing in fact, and not what we say or think we are doing,
the way to improvement is wide open to us."
Class sessions contain a vast and ever-growing variety of exercise explorations.
Various examples include stillness, pre-movement investigation, recruitment during
motion (what engages while moving that is not required for the action), joint range
of motion, passive stretching, active stretching, balance work, and strengthening.
Classes soon to come at Performance Pilates at the Fremont Center Theatre in South
Pasadena!
Private sessions available. |
